The Thai National Halal Industry Committee (NHIC) recently held its inaugural meeting. The meeting was convened to bolster Thailand’s economy and venture into new markets for halal products.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin underscored the robust stability of the country’s food sector. He stated that the industry is supported by an efficient supply chain, a favourable climate, a dependable workforce, and transportation systems.
The NHIC, established alongside the Thai Halal Industry Centre, is strategically positioned to help Thailand become a frontrunner in halal production and export. It aligns perfectly with Thailand’s ambition to become the regional hub for halal industries.
Industry Minister Pimpatra Wichaikul stated that the goal is to leverage Thailand’s diverse food, cosmetics, fashion, and tourism offerings. This initiative resulted from significant discussions between him and leaders from predominantly Muslim countries, including Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the Sultan of Brunei.
These discussions have paved the way for international collaboration and new opportunities for Thailand’s halal products in global markets.
Moreover, Thavisin urged relevant agencies to actively promote local halal food products globally. He additionally stressed the importance of enhancing technological developments and cultivating innovation within businesses, a prospect that promises an exciting future for the halal industry.
To fulfil these objectives, Thavisin has called for dedicated budgeting to support the Thai Halal Industry Centre’s efforts.
