Tourism Malaysia Director-General Manoharan Periasamy invites travellers to experience this unique blend of tradition and hospitality, promising an unforgettable immersion into the beauty of the holy month.
Malaysia’s Ramadan offers a unique experience for both Muslims and non-Muslims. It showcases the country’s vibrant multicultural fabric through bustling Ramadan bazaars and communal iftars (breaking of fast).
Manoharan emphasised Malaysia’s respectful approach to Ramadan and said: “Tourist areas remain open, and you can experience the beauty of the holy month without feeling disrupted.
“Beyond the culinary delights, events like “Iftar@KL”, for example, offer an unforgettable experience. Tourists can immerse themselves in cultural performances, explore religious activities, and have the opportunity to break the fast with a large, welcoming group.”
The MY Ramadan Experience Campaign
The MY Ramadan Experience campaign aims to highlight Malaysia’s Ramadan festivities through curated packages focusing on Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Putrajaya. Tourists can enjoy accommodation with halal-certified kitchens, culinary adventures at Ramadan bazaars, and exclusive iftar events.
Manoharan noted: “The MY Ramadan Experience goes beyond cultural immersion; it offers exceptional value for money, allowing tourists to create lasting memories.”
In addition to hotel promotions, experiential offerings such as homestays with local Muslim families, hands-on cooking experiences, and guided tours of Ramadan charity bazaars complement the campaign.
Social media campaigns using the #MYRamadanExperience hashtag encourage tourists to share their experiences, building anticipation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Campaign Goals
The campaign also aims to attract new visitors and extend Malaysia’s tourist season to encompass Ramadan, boosting revenue for hotels, restaurants, and travel businesses.
Manoharan highlighted a media report indicating a significant increase in Southeast Asian retail sales during Ramadan last year, with Malaysia leading the charge.
“The MY Ramadan Experience can strategically leverage this consumer spending trend, ensuring Malaysia captures a significant share.”
Beyond economic benefits, the campaign aims to position Malaysia as a culturally enriching destination.
“By offering a first-hand glimpse into Ramadan traditions, the campaign aims to foster a sense of respect and appreciation for the holy month, creating a more inclusive and positive experience for all.”
To maximise the campaign’s benefits, Malaysian tourism and hospitality players are encouraged to participate nationwide, offering custom MY Ramadan Experience packages and creating a lively campaign atmosphere with more hotels, shopping malls, and Ramadan bazaars.
Malaysia as Muslim-Friendly Tourism destination
Manoharan emphasised that the MY Ramadan Experience campaign aligns with Malaysia’s commitment to Muslim-friendly tourism, contributing to sustained success beyond the campaign period.
“It aligns with our aspiration to empower Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality segments, stay competitive, and ultimately contribute to Muslim tourists’ overall satisfaction.”
By leveraging elements of cultural immersion and shared experiences, the campaign can promote Malaysia’s tourism offerings year-round and support Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Manoharan also expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) to promote Malaysia as a Muslim-friendly destination, leveraging ITC’s Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality Assurance and Recognition (MFAR) standards in conjunction with promotional activities.
“We’re going to complement ITC’s efforts by inviting them to join us in activities like roadshows and international fairs.” – RnR
