Halal Expo Indonesia 2023 unveils opportunities in Indonesian halal market and promotes ethical business conduct

The global halal industry experienced remarkable growth in 2023, with countries worldwide emphasising the sector’s crucial role in the global economy.
Among the standout events underscoring this significance was the Halal Expo Indonesia (HEI) 2023, held with the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) on Oct 25-29. This expo was a focal point for international halal players eager to tap into the promising Indonesian market.
Presented by PT Halal Expo Indonesia in partnership with the Indonesian Muslim Entrepreneurs Community (KPMI), HEI 2023 served as a dynamic platform to spotlight the various offerings within the halal industry.
AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE

On the third day of the exhibition, Chief Financial Officer of PT Halal Expo Indonesia Aryo Wibisono shared with @Halal that the team was pleased with the event’s turnout. Aryo shared that the excitement and atmosphere were fantastic.
“We are thrilled to host Halal Expo Indonesia this year as all the business matchmaking sessions yield positive
results. Exhibitors are delighted, thanks to the substantial visitor turnout—possibly exceeding 10,000 visitors, insha’Allah. Our collaboration with ISEF has been fruitful, leaving both organisers and exhibitors contented.
“We hope it will be even bigger than this for the next Halal Expo Indonesia. We aspire to have many exhibitors worldwide join our exhibition and engage in business interactions.”
Aryo highlighted that the collaboration between HEI and ISEF improved exposure and increased visitors. He expressed optimism for the growth of the halal industry in Indonesia, envisioning widespread access to halal certificates for everyone.
With KPMI actively engaged as a strategic partner, the HEI 2023 also aimed to elevate halal product businesses to the international market. KPMI introduced the Export Academy programme, aiming to boost the global business growth of halal product entrepreneurs.
This programme provides a comprehensive learning experience, combining online competency-based video lessons with offline intensive mentoring. It also facilitated business matching, allowing direct interactions between buyers and sellers in business lounges or booths.
ELEVATING HALAL BUSINESSES

KPMI Chairman Rachmat Sutarnas Marpaung emphasised the organisation’s vision of nurturing entrepreneurs to adhere to solid principles derived from the teachings of Rasulullah, in alignment with the Quran and the Hadith.
KPMI aims to enhance its members’ entrepreneurial skills by providing education in various aspects, including good corporate governance, marketing, finance, operational excellence, and human resource development.
“We collaborate with PT Halal Expo Indonesia for HEI 2023. This event brings together exhibitors and buyers from different countries. We are doing this because we are trying to connect all stakeholders in the halal industry to grow together in developing the global halal economy.
“HEI is also connected to other global halal expos like Halal Expo London, Saudi International Halal Expo, Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), Halal Korea, Halal Expo Nigeria, and others.
“By doing this, we hope to align with our Islamic principles, emphasising that we will be better off working together through collaboration and cooperation. We believe that the halal industry will become stronger in the future.”
Rachmat emphasised that halal is no longer merely a practice rooted in religious principles; it has evolved into a lifestyle. It is not only about obeying the instructions from Allah and Rasulullah but also ensuring the consumption of products that are beneficial for health and life.
Halal also poses significant benefits towards sustainability.
Rachmat reiterated his belief in collective efforts, emphasising that having halal stakeholders working together would help strengthen the halal economy, industry, and Islamic finance. –
